CalPERS is offering one-on-one consultation appointments to assist you with planning for your retirement.  Faculty and Staff can take advantage of this opportunity to meet with a CalPERS representative one-on-one to assist you with planning for your retirement.

Exploring the Role of Department Chair | Postponed

A university campus offers many avenues for faculty to grow and engage throughout their careers. It’s never too soon nor too late to explore the possibilities.

Join us for a discussion of the Department Chair position. Learn what the job entails and what a typical day in the life of a department chair looks like. What are the benefits and rewards of serving as a chair? Is there any point too early or too late in one’s career to become a chair? Is there life after being a chair?  We’ll explore all of this and more.

Savings Plus - Investing | February 7

Whether you've been investing with Savings Plus for years, or have just recently enrolled, this class will help you make sense of the different investment options available to you in the state's 401(k) and 457 plans. You will be walked through the tools available to you through Savings Plus to help make investing easier.

  • Understand the difference between stocks, bonds, and short term investments.

Documentation Can Help Raise the Bar for You and Your Employee(s) | February 14

Building Marshal Training | February 14

Presented by Jenny Novak, Emergency Preparedness Manager, this course is designed for staff interested or assigned to be Building Marshals for campus departments. The training will cover evacuation procedures, CSUN hazard-specific emergency procedures, equipment assigned to building marshals, and information about how staff can be better prepared to respond to an emergency situation on campus. This is the introductory level training to prepare staff for the Building Marshal position; additional building-specific training opportunities will also be provided.

CSUN Emergency Procedures and Emergency Notification | February 21

This course will provide an overview of the three tiers of CSUN’s Emergency Management & Preparedness Program: University, Department, and the Individual. We will focus heavily on emergency procedures and recommended actions in different types of hazardous situations. Participants will come away with a clear understanding of how CSUN utilizes its emergency notifications systems to reach the campus community, the University’s emergency response structure, and what resources are available to promote preparedness at a department and individual level on campus.

International Travel 101 | February 22

In accordance with the CSU's Foreign Travel Insurance Policy (2011), all CSU faculty, staff, and students traveling internationally on CSU business must obtain Foreign Travel Insurance through Risk Management.

In attending this workshop, you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the requirements of the policy.
  • Learn best practices for obtaining Foreign Travel Insurance and how this affects eTravel Travel Authorizations and the paper Approval of Travel Form, and
  • Understand the difference between High Risk and International destinations and the expectations that apply to each.

Who Should Attend:

Faculty and staff planning to travel internationally on CSU business; and/or those responsible for assisting in international travel arrangements or reconciliation.

Eldercare: The Emotional Challenges for Caregivers | February 22

It is estimated that 80% of all care received by older Americans is provided by family members. Those of us who have senior loved ones in our lives want to be sure they’re well-cared for. This can be emotionally challenging for family members as they try to balance their work and children in addition to taking care of a loved one. This session will address some of the emotional challenges caregivers face, the importance of a support network, and resources available.

Disaster Ready: Personal Preparedness 101 | February 28

This course will be an overview of personal preparedness tips and recommendations for a variety of hazards. We will go over CSUN specific procedures as well as what individuals can do in their homes and offices to be prepared for any type of emergency situation. So long as cash is King, there are procedures to adhere to when handling cash and cash equivalency. If you handle payment transactions, there are CSU/CSUN guidelines you must follow to protect the University.
