A Quick Return to Campus Checklist

San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc., Providing Mental Health First Aid Training | September 8 & 9 and Thru November

Mental health clinicians from San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc., will be providing free Mental Health First Aid training (through November).  

Mental Health First Aid is 2 hours of self-paced pre-work and 6 hours of “class.”
It is a skills-based training that teaches participants about mental health and substance use issues with the following goals and objectives:

  • Learn signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use issues
  • Learn how to interact with a person in crisis
  • Learn about resources to connect a person to receive appropriate care

University Counseling Services Presents QPR: Suicide Education & Prevention Training | September 13 & 28

Join Dr. Anne Eipe, Assistant Director/Clinical Coordinator of University Counseling Services for a 90 to 120 minute training on suicide education and prevention with the following goals and objectives: 

  • Raising awareness about suicide
  • Background information about suicide, with a focus on the college student population
  • Dispelling myths and misconceptions
  • Teaching 3 skills that can help save a life: Question, Persuade, Refer
  • Video of Role Play

Celebrate Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month With the University Library | September 15 - October 15

Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month Features:

  • Virtual and physical book display, featuring award-winning authors

CSU Board of Trustees Meeting | September 14 & 15

The 25-member Board of Trustees adopts regulations and policies governing the entire CSU system. Board committees have authority over educational policy, finance, campus planning, and facilities, among other areas. The CSU Board of Trustees meets six times a year. Meetings allow for communication among the Trustees, Chancellor, campus presidents, Academic Senate, California State Student Association and Alumni Council.​

The CSU Board of Trustees meetings are broadcast live to the public. The next meeting will take place on September 14-15​, 202​​1.

MDECOE CTL presents Education on the Edge Speaker Series: Neurodiversity in Action with Barry M. Prizant | September 30

The Michael D Eisner College of Education’s Center for Teaching & Learning is proud to offer another amazing presentation from the Education on the Edge speaker series.

Dr. Barry Prizant will be presenting virtually on September 30 at 7 PM for one hour. Zoom link will be available on the CTL website at www.csun.edu/ctl.

Dr. Barry M. Prizant is among the world’s leading authorities on autism, and is recognized as an innovator of respectful, person- and family-centered approaches for individuals with autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities. With close to fifty years of experience as a scholar, researcher, and international consultant, he is an adjunct professor at Brown University, a certified speech-language pathologist, and director of Childhood Communication Services, a private practice. Barry is co-author of The SCERTS Model: A Comprehensive Educational Approach, now being implemented in more than a dozen countries. He has published four books, more than 130 articles and chapters and has received many awards, including the Honors of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (their highest recognition), the Princeton University Eden Foundation career award in autism and the "Divine Neurotypical Award" of GRASP, the world's largest autistic self-advocacy organization. His most recent book is Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism (Simon & Schuster), winner of the 2017 Autism Society of America’s Temple Grandin Award for Outstanding Literary Work.

Alfredo "Fred" Fernandez Appointed Interim Chief of Police

Effective August 1, 2021, Deputy Chief Alfredo Fernandez was appointed as the Interim Chief of Police.

Chief Fernandez joined CSUN in 1998 and has been an integral member of the DPS senior management team for many years.
