May is Mental Health Awareness Month: Take Part in Calm's Mindful Monday Challenge
Mental Health is Big. Let’s Start Small with Mindful Mondays in May!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we’d like to support you every step of your mental health journey.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Calm to bring you the Mindful Mondays Challenge throughout the month of May. After you sign up for the challenge, Calm will send you an email every Monday, starting on May 2. They’ll be sharing mindfulness activities to help you build positive, healthy habits. The goal is to support you in prioritizing your mental health and overall well-being.
How can you participate in the Mindful Mondays Challenge?
Step 1 - Sign up for the challenge
Step 2 - Activate your free Calm premium subscription in less than three minutes, if you haven’t already. Follow the instructions here: Calm for CSUN Employees

Campus Care Recovery Program One-Day Conference | April 26
Please join our CSUN community by attending the Revitalize - Campus Care Recovery Program's one-day virtual conference! On April 26, 2022, 8:45 a.m.-4:15 p.m.,
This conference consists of a series of workshops and keynote speakers focused on wellness and collective healing from grief and trauma. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted us on an individual and community level. Returning to campus can come with its own challenges in finding a new "normal." Our goal is to provide effective self-care strategies and relevant information in a safe space, that fosters community healing and revitalization.

Join Matador Eats: Participate in Stop Food Waste Day | April 27
CSUN Celebrates Stop Food Waste Day on April 27
Cal State University, Northridge celebrates international day of action through an innovative awareness campaign, events, day of giving, teaching, and celebration.
Did you know more than one third of U.S. food goes to waste each year? Whether it’s due to natural spoilage or an overabundance of groceries, food waste is a huge issue for families and communities across the world. To help raise awareness of this issue, CSUN is challenging all students and faculty to participate in Stop Food Waste Day on April 27. Launched in 2017 by the global leader in food service Compass Group, Stop Food Waste Day is an annual international day of action focused on highlighting the important issue of food waste and ways we can reduce it.
Matador Eats has a full day of activities on April 27th at the Campus Store Lawn and Bamboo Terrace.
To celebrate Stop Food Waste Day this year, CSUN and its food service partner Chartwells Higher Education are inviting students, staff and faculty to participate in many fun activities:
- Station take-over at Bamboo Terrace and G’mos
- Teaching Kitchen at Bamboo Terrace
- Veggie Immersion at G’mos
- Launch of Composting Machine at G’mos
- Food Pantry Donation
- Reusable Bottle and Reusable Straws Give Away at Freudian Sip and Arbor
- Games and Raffles

The Basics of Essential Oils: All You Need to Know Before You Take a Nose Dive
This virtual workshop is FREE for CSUN community, including CSUN students, staff, faculty and alumni.
The attendees will:
- Learn about the nature of essential oils and their main applications.
- Adopt sustainable practices with essential oil use by identifying which oils are more demanding on the environment.
- Understand the safety and knowledge requirements for their use.
- Gain confidence to seek further knowledge from reputable sources.
This presentation will not be recorded, but copies of the slides will be available to individuals that register.
Individuals that are in attendance of the virtual workshop will be eligible to win:
1) Essential Oil Safety Masterclass (online) with the Tisserand Institute (1 winner).
2) Single class of choice from the online classes at the Tisserand Institute (2 winners).
3) Essential oils kit starter (includes Eucalyptus Globulus, Lemon, Peppermint, Sweet Orange, Tea Tree and Lavender). Pick-up on campus.

CTL Presents Education on the Edge Speaker Series: A Screening of the Documentary, TRANSlucent | May 10
Every year, the CTL hosts its annual Education on the Edge event, finding and highlighting individuals who are on the cutting edge of education. These events are co-sponsored by the Schools First Federal Credit Union, allowing the CTL to bring in excellent content and speakers while making the event free to the public.
This semester, the Education on the Edge event will take place on May 10th, 5:00-6:30 p.m. PST on Zoom, allowing a more national audience to join us. We are honored to share the award-winning work of a recent CSUN alumnus, Avery Fox.
Together, participants will view a screening of Translucent, a moving 24-minute documentary about a young adult’s gender transition journey. Translucent was a finalist for the 48th Annual Student Academy Awards. CSUN alum, Avery Fox, is both the subject of the documentary and creator of the film. Avery will join a diverse panel of varying perspectives on the topic, of how educators can best support transgender individuals. Q&A will be encouraged.

SEED provides an opportunity to promote honest, open conversation with the goal to cultivate a safe an inclusive environment for staff, faculty and students.
Seed Training uses storytelling to reflect upon our own past, our current roles and how we can imagine the experience of people unlike ourselves through learning, narratives, and media.
