Receive a $50 Target Gift Card When You Open a New ScholarShare 529 Account Between December 9 & 13*

Thinking of starting to save for college this holiday season?

ScholarShare 529 is offering a special incentive this December - a $50 Target gift card - when you open a new ScholarShare 529 account between December 9-13, 2020 with $50 and set up an Automatic Contribution Plan of $25 or more for six months.

Even in times like these parents are still concerned with the cost of college. It's important that families take that initial step of opening an account and begin the process of saving as much and as early as possible, this special incentive offer will help California families do that.

ScholarShare 529 is administered by the ScholarShare Investment Board, which is chaired by California State Treasurer Fiona Ma. For the last 20 years, ScholarShare 529 has grown to more than 325,000 accounts with more than $9 billion in total plan assets as of October 2020. ScholarShare 529 offers families a diverse set of investment options, tax-deferred growth and withdrawals free from slate and federal taxes when funds are used for qualified higher education expenses, such as tuition and fees, computer equipment, books or certain room and board costs.

Reminder: Complete CSUN Employee Returning to Campus Training by December 31

As we continue to manage through the COVID-19 pandemic, those who are returning to campus, and those who are already on site, will notice a number of measures that have been put in place to minimize the spread of infection and keep our workplaces safer for you and your colleagues.

You should have received an email notice that prior to returning to campus to work, CSUN faculty, staff, and student employees are required to complete an online course called “Returning to Campus Guide for Employees.” The notice contained a link to CSU Learn, the Campus Learning Management System.

The 23-minute online course provides information on CSUN’s COVID-19 guidelines and shared responsibilities, as well as strategies for limiting the spread of the disease.  Human Resources will assist department heads who are responsible for tracking the training completion for their workgroups.

Please note:

  • Employees who are already working on campus should complete the training ASAP.
  • For employees returning to campus for work during Fall 2020, the course must be completed before you return to campus. Faculty may complete the training on the first day of the academic year.
  • All remaining employees must complete the training before returning to campus or by December 31, whichever occurs first.

A safe work environment is only possible when everyone participates; therefore, some of these actions will require your active engagement. Because of the “connectedness” nature of our work and the volatility of the pandemic, we must share the responsibility of protecting ourselves and each other.

For questions or issues with accessing the training, email CSU-Learn @csun.edu.

TO: All Californians

SUBJECT: Travel Advisory

The incidence of COVID-19 is increasing in many states and countries. Persons arriving in California from other states or Californians returning from other states or countries could increase the risk of COVID-19 spread. In addition, travel itself can be a risk for exposure to COVID-19, particularly travel through shared conveyance such as air, bus or rail travel.

Travel Advisory for Non-Essential Travel [1]

1. Persons arriving in California from other states or countries, including returning California residents, should practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival. These persons should limit their interactions to their immediate household. This recommendation does not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel. [2]

2. Californians are encouraged to stay home or in their region and avoid non-essential travel to other states or countries. Avoiding travel can reduce the risk of virus transmission and bringing the virus back to California.

[1] “Non-essential travel” includes travel that is considered tourism or recreational in nature.

[2] “Essential travel” includes: work and study, critical infrastructure support, economic services and supply chains, health, immediate medical care, and safety and security.
