In a survey of 580 CSUN students, 73.11% delayed buying textbooks due to cost.

Imagine how this financial burden increased dramatically during the pandemic, with many students losing jobs and not being able to access resources only available physically. Now that virtual classes are the new norm, the need for eBooks has skyrocketed. This comes at a premium price, taking students by surprise. Even traditional textbook costs can be staggering at times. Student book budget concerns have now intensified with the urgent need for typically more expensive eBooks, consequently leaving students with a sometimes insurmountable financial burden. Every $200 donated helps us purchase an eBook with unlimited access – a big plus for students. One eBook may seem trivial to you, but for every Matador, especially one from underprivileged background, it promises more chance of success and for every class, it can lead to thousands of savings for students in these challenging times.

The Jolene Koester Presidential Scholarship is awarded annually to a member, or members, of the University staff or administration pursuing a degree in any field of study at CSUN, and is intended to cover costs exceeding the amount of any fee waivers in effect. The applicant must enroll in at least three units each semester during the academic year. Students taking courses through the Tseng College are eligible.
