March Marks Water Month | 4 Tips on How To Be a Water Hero

March marks Water Month and that means the world turns its attention towards the 750 million people who lack access to safe water, and 1.8 billion people who use a source of contaminated drinking water. Want to know how YOU can make a change in your daily life to conserve water and support campus efforts?

  • Volunteer with a Local Organization. There are several great organizations that do great work such as the Council for Watershed Health, The River Project, Thirst Project or Heal the Bay. You can also consider joining the CSUN Water Working Group.
  • Attend Water-related Events on Campus. We’re hosting Water Day on March 26 and presenting about our campus efforts at This Way to Sustainability Conference at CSU Chico.
  • Save the Drop. Take shorter showers, turn off sprinklers when rain is in the forecast and get rebates from the city for being water-wise. You can find more tips on the Save the Drop LA page.
  • Educate Yourself on Drinking Water. Bring your own bottle and skip the single-use disposable plastic bottles. A common misconception is that bottled water is safer to drink than tap water, but public water systems are strictly monitored and regulated. In Los Angeles, the Department of Water and Power tests the water supply every single day to ensure safety. Locate your nearest CSUN water refill station on this campus map.
