the information contained in this flyer is also presented below in text only format. In CSUN Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) we study the relationship between human health and the environment. Beyond that, we look for practical actions that protect human health.

In keeping with that mission, EOH is partnering with Heal the Bay to lead our very own beach cleanup team as a part of Coastal Cleanup Day 2017. This international event by Ocean Conservancy has been named the biggest single-day volunteer event by the world Guinness Book of World Records. Last year, over half a million people picked up 18.3 million pounds of trash polluting coastal areas around the planet, in just a few hours!

We are now recruiting volunteers to join us in cleaning Sunset Point Beach on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 9 am to 12 pm. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to protecting your environment, as well as the health of your community. What better way to contribute than to spend the day at the beach?

Sunset Point Beach is at the northern end of Will Rogers State Beach near Pacific Palisades.  Please visit the Heal the Bay website for details.

Important Information for Coastal Cleanup Day 2017:

1) Volunteers under 18 will be asked to submit a waiver form, which you will receive upon registration. Minors must have a parent/guardian sign the form. (We will have some on site just in case you forget.)

2) For your safety: no open toed shoes! We recommend that you bring a large water bottle, a hat, sunglasses, and if possible, you own bucket for picking up trash.  Remember, it’s all for the sake of the beach!

3) Although we will provide light refreshments, consider bringing a snack and water.

4) We encourage volunteers to car pool, or bike to the cleanup site, if possible.

5) We will aim to generate zero waste.
