    Local Transportation

The most convenient airport for GD 2015 is the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX, 12 miles from Downtown L.A.). For domestic air travel, several nearby airports can also be used: Burbank Bob Hope Airport (BUR, 13 miles), Long Beach Airport (LGB, 20 miles), and John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana (SNA, 40 miles).

  • FlyAway shuttle busses run every 30 minutes between LAX and Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. The one-way fare is $8. Shuttles stop at each terminal at LAX, at the green waiting area on the arrival level. Union Station is a short walk or a short subway ride from the conference venue (see map).
  • Taxi fares from LAX to Downtown cost about $50 one-way.
  • Uber and Lyft fares are about $30: these ride-sharing services are still not allowed to pick up passengers at LAX. (The city has changed its policy in May 2015, but the new policy has not been implemented yet; see here). Dropping off passengers at LAX has never been a problem.
  • For those traveling by car, public parking is available in the underground garage at Pershing Square for $16 per day ($10 if arriving before 11am). Consult Bestparking.com for a comprehensive list of parking options. Valet parking at the Biltmore Millennium Hotel is available for $22 with validation (not good for overnight parking).
  • City buses are not an efficient means of transportation between LAX and Downtown L.A. However, the subway, Metro Rail, offers convenient service between the conference venue (Pershing Sq or 7th Street) and nearby hotels.
