Events and Achievements

Dr. Jennifer Johnson, Senior Continuing Lecturer from UC Santa Barbara, will give a talk in Professor Irene Clark’s Composition Studies Class (English 513) on Wednesday, October 9th, at 4 PM.  Jennifer has an MA in Rhetoric and Composition from our department. Her talk is titled “Building a Career in Composition Studies: A Story of Passion, Perseverance, Pluck, and a Little Luck Too.” All welcome to come, either in person or on zoom! The class meets in person in JR 201, but for those who would like to meet on zoom, here is the link: https://csun.zoom.us/j/88628557611

Professor Rick Mitchell‘s new play will be presented by Highways Performance Space, Santa Monica, on October 4th and 5th, at 8:00 p.m. After struggling residents of a long-colonized Caribbean island buy into a new crypto hustle, something’s gotta give. In Flickering Paradise: A Caribbean Fábula, a new dark comedy with Afro-Latinx music and a stellar ensemble, local residents resist the latest forms of exploitation through activism, plena music, and—when things take a turn for the worse—the unexpected appearance of a radical ancestor spirit. With original music by renowned Puerto Rican percussionist and composer Angel Luís Figueroa. Presented as a workshop production by Highways Performance Space, in association with Urban Ensemble Theater Collective. For tickets and further information about the play and venue:
