If not, both Kaiser Permanente and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health are offering CSUN Employee Vaccination Days. These opportunities are open to both state and auxiliary employees (including student employees), regardless of county of residence, or current health care provider. Both venues will confirm appointments for 2nd dose vaccinations at the time of the initial appointment. These appointments are only for CSUN employees. You will be required to provide employment verification at the time of your appointment. Please see the list of acceptable documents at: https://www.csun.edu/hr/employee-covid-19-vaccination-information.

In Memorium

The CSUN English Department lost two valued lecturers last week. We honor their lives and work, and we mourn their passing.

Robert Kane died on March 3. Robert was one of my first students at CSUN, and he graduated with an English BA in 2005. Robert’s wife, Christine, shared the following: “His students loved him for his knowledge, sense of humor, and his abilities. His unique approach to teaching was that a lesson is well-learned if it’s also entertaining. Before he began his teaching career, Robert was an accomplished actor who toured with several well-known Shakespeare companies. He was also a talented playwright who had his work produced in both LA and New York. He will be greatly missed.”\

Joanne Martin died on March 9. She received her BA in English from CSUN in 1982, and in 2012, she completed the MA in English (Literature). She taught all levels of composition. Joanne went through our TA program alongside another lecturer, Kathy Roman, who shared the following. “Joanne has been such a dear friend and colleague since we met in grad school here at CSUN in 2009. Her love of literature and learning was always contagious! We had many classes together, and one that I will always remember was the TA program. Joanne always came to class with some baked goodie. Our TA group talked about our excitement about teaching, dealt with our fears and student issues, laughed together, and ate Joanne’s wonderful goodies.  Joanne and I worked together over the last many years developing classes, and we learned so much from each other as we struggled to create meaningful content and then work effectively with students. Joanne’s love of teaching, tremendous care for students, amazing work ethic, and wonderful sense of humor and laugh have profoundly impacted my teaching and my life. I will miss our daily chats over this past year as we both grappled with the pandemic and she battled cancer.  I am deeply saddened over the loss of a wonderful friend and amazing colleague.”
