Bilingual Teaching Residency Grant Program

CSUN has a partnership with the Multicultural Learning Center (MLC), a TK-8 public charter school to engage candidates in the Multiple Subject Credential program in a paid yearlong residency. Candidates must be bilingual in Spanish and pursuing a bilingual authorization as part of their credential and they will conduct their full year of student teaching at MLC under the mentorship of an experienced bilingual educator. Candidates will receive a stipend of $30,000 for the school year. 2025-2026 Academic Year Deadline to Apply is May 1, 2025

Welcoming Cat Maiorca, Assistant Professor, Elementary STEM Education

Cat Maiorca

We are pleased to welcome Cat Maiorca, new Assistant Professor, Elementary STEM, in the Department of Elementary Education. Prior to joining us, she taught in the Elementary Education department at California State University Long Beach, and was a professor of Mathematics Education at Oklahoma State University. She received her M.A. in 2011 from Sierra Nevada College, and her Ph.D. in 2016 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her research interests include model-eliciting activities, equity in integrated STEM education, effective STEM teaching and learning practices for every student, integrated STEM education in formal and informal settings, preservice teachers, and students’ dispositions toward integrated STEM. LAUSD Teachers Earn Reading & Literacy Certificates at CSUN

This past summer, as part of a Ballmer grant, 51 LAUSD primary grade teachers successfully earned a CSUN Reading & Literacy Certificate by taking 3 summer courses in the Elementary Education Department. The intense summer program included tutoring of 35 elementary school students from the community through the L.A. Times Literacy Center, one of the centers in the Teaching, Learning, and Counseling Consortium. Forty-two teachers will continue this fall and earn their CTC Reading & Literacy Added Authorization. We expect over 100 teachers to participate in the program next summer. Read more

A Summer of Fun and Learning at CSUN

The Summer Academic Enrichment Program (SAEP) celebrated its 45th year this past summer! With over 250 secondary students on campus, SAEP offered 5-week classes ranging from 2D Computer Animation to Culinary to Watercolor. 

For the younger kids, the Summer Academic Program for Elementary School Students (SAPESS) held its 39th program this past summer! Eighty students enjoyed 5 weeks of English, arts and crafts, science, and theater arts in the Education building. Read more
