ED Announces Two New Grant Programs
GrantWeek - January 23, 2017; By Thompson, Erika
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released the Education Innovation and Research (EIR), and Teacher and School Leader (TSL) grant competitions. Both programs are newly authorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
TSL replaces the Teacher Incentive Fund and will "build on districts’ efforts underway to develop and reward talented educators and school leaders, and will provide educators new opportunities to contribute to their schools." Approximately $10 million is available for up to 20 awards. The deadline is March 24, 2017.
EIR is the successor to Investing in Innovation (i3), the popular program that was originally funded through the Recovery Act. EIR will "support state and local efforts to develop, implement and take to scale innovative and evidence-based projects." Like i3, EIR will offer three types of awards—early-phase, mid-phase and expansion-phase grants. Approximately $180 million is available for up to 63 awards across the different phases. The deadline is April 13, 2017.
