Benefits

Medicaid & the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP):

If you are a benefits-eligible faculty or staff member but are unable to afford the premium, the state does offer premium assistance programs that may help pay for employer-sponsored coverage.   Additionally, if you are not benefits-eligible these programs may also assist you in obtaining benefit coverage.  These assistance programs are Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP); in California, these programs are administered by Medi-Cal and Healthy Families, respectively.

If you or your dependent(s) are NOT currently enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP, and you think you and/or any of your dependents might be eligible for either of these programs, you can contact Medicaid at https://www.medicaid.gov/ or 1-866-298-8443; or contact Healthy Families at http://www.healthyfamilies.ca.gov/Home/default.aspx or 1-800-880-5305.

If you and/or your dependent(s) enroll in State Medicaid or CHIP but subsequently lose eligibility, you and your dependent(s) can be re-enrolled in the university’s health plan. If you and your dependent(s) are already enrolled in our health plan but become eligible for State Medicaid or CHIP, you have the right to dis-enroll yourself and/or your dependent(s) from the health plan. These special enrollment/disenrollment requests must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources, Benefits Administration, within 60 days after you and/or your dependent(s) is terminated from or determined to be eligible for such assistance.
