One Campus, One Book: CSUN's Freshman Common Reading Program, 2010-2011
The Freshman Common Reading Selection Committee has chosen The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon as the winning title for CSUN's 2010-2011 program. Narrated by a 15-year-old boy who is determined to solve a mysterious murder, The Curious Incident offers readers several surprises: a Sherlock Holmes-worthy plot; an inside view of autism; an unforgettable lesson in probability (highly useful in case you're selected to play Let's Make a Deal, the long-running TV game show); the opportunity to appreciate prime numbers; great writing; and characters who grapple heroically with their circumstances.
Mark Haddon, 2003.

Discussion in this year's Selection Committee was unusually vigorous--so vigorous that we have decided to recommend that the 2010 entering freshmen also consider reading a second book on their own: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
