Professional Interests:
Teacher Preparation, outreach to families with deaf and hard of hearing children, and research. Research interests include exploring family support for families with DHH children, and explicit reading instruction with students who are DHH.

Background:
My current interests are in working with families who have deaf or hard of hearing children. Through the Deaf Education And Families Project, we are able to shape and mold the national conversations related to Early Intervention and family support. We participate in two sub-committees through the Center for Disease Control/Newborn Hearing Screening Programs: the Provider Education subcommittee and the Parent-to-Parent subcommittee. We have established contact with over 1,500 families and professionals in the past four years moving the current narrative related to what it means to raise and educate a deaf or hard of hearing child.

I spent the majority of my career as a Speech Language Pathologist working with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing in schools for the deaf and local public schools. I served as clinical faculty at The Ohio State University in the Department Speech and Hearing Science and at Texas Woman's University in Communication Disorders. I received my teaching credential in Arizona in 1999. I have a minor in Reading and received a Reading Specialist certificate in Arizona too.

I have given local, state, & national presentations and workshops on literacy instruction. and authored or co-authored several publications pertaining to literacy instruction with general and special educators. More recently, I've been presenting with Parent Mentors from the Deaf Education And Families Project at the national Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Conference and state and local conferences.

In my free time, I have enjoyed traveling throughout the world. During Summer 2012 my husband, father, and nephew, and I hiked the Inca Trail in Peru!! In the past, I've also traveled to Japan, East Africa, Europe, Denmark, Russia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Belize, and the Caribbean, as well as many states in the US. I enjoy reading, outdoor exercise, crafts, instructional technology, and my family.
