The double doors leading from the Salone dei Corazzieri (originally called the Sala Regia) to the Cappella Paolina in the Quirinal Palace were designed by Carlo Maderna. Maderno had been placed in charge of the reconstruction of the southern wing of the Palace by Paul V. The bas-relief, "Christ washing the feet of St. Peter", is by Taddeo Landini. The Chapel was dedicated by Pope Paul V on January 25, 1617, the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul. See Francesco Cancellieri, Descrizione delle cappelle ponteficie e cardinalizie di tutto l' anno (Roma: Luigi Perego Salvioni, 1790), 2-3.
